Bangkok

We should get a couple of either/ors up at once. To be honest I'm kind of getting tired of Matt getting his ass kicked. No matter how cute the puppy is...

Give us ideas! Even better: send us photos! Let's try to get a couple of Stuy-people ones in before the year is over...

As of now, the way crushlists on stuycom will work is that your crushes must be in one of six categories:
(Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, I'd Hit That, Honorable Mention)
If they aren't (or we can't figure out what you were trying to write), they will go into I'd Hit That.

This is probably not the best way of handling this so proposals are welcome (like if you have an idea of another category that should be available to everyone). Also, '08 Crushlists will be up soon!

Holler

A Chance For Your Racial Bias To Shine Through

First off, everyone check out Dan's joke!
In reference to staying after school to help out with crushlists, he said "You REALLY want to come help. Even though Jonah will be there." Isn't that funny?! He's implying that me being there will dissuade you from coming. It's so funny! My rectum practically detached from my body, I was laughing so hard.

So, updates:

  • Senior Twin Day is this Tuesday
  • Lost Season Finale is this Wednesday
  • Daniel has the humorous capacity of paint drying
  • Either/Or

Oh, "what's that?", you ask. "Either/Or?" Well, trim your imaginary toenails, Hypothetical You, because this is about to knock your socks off.

Either/Or is a competition of sorts. Each week (or each month. or each sometimes) a choice will be proposed, and YOU get to pick which one you like. Can you spell intiractive userface? Because I can't.

In the past, we've done themed E/Os like hottest freshman, hottest Stuycom Admin, etc... think of some good themes and email them to Daniel. Or don't. Or do.

Our first Either/Or can be found on the right, just above the Banner of the Week that hasn't been updated since this site was created. Ch-Ch-Ch-look at it.

A couple of things

First off, go check prama. I just realized that the update link has been broken (clearly, that's the only reason people haven't been posting their stuff), and fixed that. There is also a new write-in box for those of you with prom dates from out of school or whatever. Thanks go out to Samantha ('09) for constantly reminding me to put this box in. Thanks Samantha!

When you logged in, you were probably asked for your gender. This is because Crushlists are coming up in one week and we need to have it for things like stats. I'm also going to try to get last year's lists up...so we'll see how that goes.

THIS PART IS IMPORTANT: On Crushlists day (Monday, 5/18), after school, a bunch of kids (from all grades) traditionally stay and take down the crushlists from the wall and have a party typing them up in one of the computer labs. It's happening again. We'll like listen to music and make jokes about how stupid other peoples' lists are. Almost everyone is welcome to help out and I'll figure out some way to recognize those who came. If you're down, comment on this post or just let me know in person. Details will come later.

Trust me. You REALLY want to come help. Even though Jonah will be there.

Events and Prama

IMPORTANT: If anyone wants to take the AP Comparative Government test but did not sign up for it, LET ME KNOW. I can transfer my registration to you.

It's true, Jonah finally posted. But since his post sucked there's really no point in even acknowledging the fact that it exists.

If you are logged in, you'll see a list of Upcoming Events on the right sidebar. This will probably mostly be Senior events. In any case, if you have something that should be put up (a game, another senior event, a deadline, etc.), holler at me.

Looks like Prama's slowly picking up steam. Seriously, to those who are "morally opposed" to the concept: it's no different from Senioritis or Crushlists. Just go along with it. Trust me. It's cool to be on Prama.

In other news, it looks like Senioritis is going to break the 200 postings record tonight. We're shooting for full representation - if you have friends who have settled on a college but have not put it up yet, tell them to get on stuycom!

Dan, How Do I Add a Title?TitleGoesHere.

Hello Students, Alums and Overbearing Parents of Students or Alums.
My name is Jonah.
I'm pretty much the brains, face and reproductive organs of Stuycom. Anything you like on this site, chances are I did it. Anything that doesn't work or isn't funny was probably Dan. That includes things in this post.

A date has been set for Senior Crushlists.
On May 18th, you will have the chance to "list your crushes at Stuyvesant High School throughout your 4 years here! You might want to What is there to lose? Make it extravagant, make it simple, make it long, make it short, use a poster board, use a napkin, JUST DO IT!"
So, now's your chance to create months worth of uncomfortable social interaction with:

  • people you thought were platonic friends
  • people you've never talked to
  • people you've drunkenly hooked up with at a party and then never talked to
  • people you have no shot with but I mean, hey, it's the end of the year and who knows, maybe they'll like you back. I mean, you're not the best looking kid in the world but there are definitely worse. And besides, everyone says you're funny. If she gets freaked out you can probably just play it off as a joke anyway
  • teachers
  • administrators of Stuycom
The possibilities are endless. And it's really a fun thing to do.

And...we're back!

You may have noticed that stuycom was down for the past two days. We had some trouble with our old host and have moved to a new server. Very exciting.

Everything should be working just as it was before. If you find something wrong, please let me know so it can be fixed.

Prama?

Prama has been fixed.

So you might be logging on to stuycom just to check for new Senioritis entries or maybe to see if Jonah has finally stopped sucking and taken some time out of his busy schedule to write a little post. However, out of the corner of your eye, you notice something different. You may find yourself asking: "Am I crazy?"

The answer is no. That's just the Prama link. Now stop whatever you're doing and check it out.
That is all.

Dress code, and more

Although I wasn't around to hear it myself (it's tough to find me in school before noon), this morning Ms. Damesek announced the implementation of a new dress code. I am not familiar with all the details but from what I've heard, the code includes rules such as no "short" skirts or shorts, and no un-covered sleeves.

I don't intend for this website to be the reincarnation of StuyWatch (hahah remember StuyWatch??) or anything even remotely similar. However, I cannot refrain from expressing my firm opposition to this new policy. I believe Aaron Ghitelman's statement does a good job conveying the discontent shared by a majority of the student body:

I love Stuyvesant High School. That’s why the announcement during third period today (April 27th, 2009) troubled me so much. The announcement declared that from that point on there would be a dress code in Stuyvesant, something absent in recent memory. One then would assume that there must be a decency problem, that Stuyvesant must look more like a brothel, than a high school. But that is not the case, in fact there is no problem, one or two individuals may have crossed the line and exposed too much, but an incredible majority of the student body wears clothes that are perfectly fine. At no point did Principal Teitel sit down with students and discuss possible options, the administration just went ahead and implemented this new policy. Through the halls I heard that ubiquitous defense of the administration’s actions, that our lack of a dress code was a privilege and not a right. I couldn’t agree more. It was a privilege, one which we earned, and had no reason to lose, and that is the crux of my argument.

Recently Principal Teitel proposed an idea to bar next year’s incoming class from going outside to lunch. The claim is that there have been three incidences of poor behavior from Stuy students at local business. The people who were responsible lost their lunch privileges and their parents were called. I agree with that action. But to take away lunch from 800 students, not even in the building, because of the actions of three is absurd. Not to mention that because of floors being closed off to students during the day, there is no space for so many students to be during their lunch periods.

Principal Teitel is looking at the glass not 99.95% full, but as .05% empty. Students recognize these two problems as privileges, and they do not abuse them. Teitel cannot truly believe that there is a behavioral problem at Stuyvesant. Letting the actions of such a tiny minority dictate his policy is absurd.

It seems as if he fails to realize the success of Stuyvesant lies in the students, and not the faculty. Stuyvesant students deserve privileges that do not exist in most New York City high schools, because we have earned them. And we deserve a voice in our school. Key privileges such as the freedom to leave the building during free periods and the ability to be on most floors during the day have evaporated under Teitel’s reign as principal. Not to mention the two-timing stance he took with the Scanners. He actually cut a deal with the class of 2007 to only use the scanners for morning attendance, but by the next year he went back on his promise and uses the scanners for kids leaving out to lunch, which wound up shaving the four minutes of passing from the times students were allowed to return from the outside.

I am writing this because I believe that we finally need to stand up against the administration. Whenever they take away these privileges, they offer no opportunities to earn them back via good behavior. The new dress code was the last straw for me. I want to know ideas other people have about ways to try to tell the administration, that they cannot just take away privileges.

Thank You,
Aaron Ghitelman

In other news, there may be a new page up tonight. Get excited.

Whoops

Apparently there are five billion Stuy students because our servers crashed yesterday because of too many visitors.
Good stuff. good stuff.
Sorry about any trauma this may have caused. For now, leave some comments about who you want in the Either/Or. We are big fans of input.

What's coming

Twice as many users as yesterday - well done, Stuy. Again.

Clearly, Jonah Meyerson is an absolute failure. He seems to be working on a wholly inconsequential Medical Ethics project while he should be writing a post here. You should all tell him what you think of him when you see him tomorrow in the hallway.

What's coming:

  • Either/Or AKA Bangkok Tournament is coming BACK! Except it won't happen without your input. Comment on this post with ideas for who should face off first.
Also, comment on things in general. It makes me happy which in turn makes me work on things like crushlists.
  • More/meaningful statistics for Senioritis. I'll also make it so that it counts the total number of people going to a college (i.e. not taking [ED], etc. into account).

I actually won't be here for the weekend. Me and 100 other kids (WTF) are heading up to Albany for the State Speech/Debate tournament. Woohoo.
